Sierra Pacific Industries (SPI) has asked CAL FIRE to clear‑cut miles of trees
that directly border N. Bloomfield Graniteville Road — ignoring
the 200 ft visual buffer zone on public roads. If approved,
the historic, scenic corridor enjoyed by visitors and locals will be stripped bare for generations.
How You Can Help
Email the CAL FIRE Review Team and Forester Jonathan Woessner and ask that the
Granita Timber Harvest Plan be rejected unless SPI keeps a 200 ft roadside buffer.
Call SPI Forester Joseph King and tell him you oppose clear-cutting next to the road.

Subject:
2-25-00038-NEV (“Granita”): Preserve the 200-foot Visual Buffer
CAL FIRE Review Team,
I am writing to strongly urge you to reject Sierra Pacific Industries’ (SPI) Granita plan in its current form, as it fails to adequately preserve the standard 200-foot uncut visual buffer along North Bloomfield Graniteville Road, a Nevada County-maintained road frequently enjoyed by visitors and locals alike.
The road-facing clear-cut acreage represents only a minimal portion of this nearly 700-acre project, and maintaining this modest buffer will significantly enhance the natural beauty and aesthetic enjoyment of the area. SPI’s claim that clear-cutting will improve views and aesthetics is fundamentally flawed—removing these trees will degrade the scenic character, as evidenced by previous clear-cuts along this road.
N. Bloomfield Graniteville Road is actively utilized by our community and visitors for numerous recreational purposes, including Graniteville’s cherished 4th of July Parade, camping, and outdoor activities around Bowman Lake. Contrary to SPI’s assertions, this road holds substantial recreational value and experiences regular daily use.
Ensuring the preservation of a 200-foot uncut visual buffer aligns precisely with California’s forestry regulations, which explicitly require special consideration for aesthetic enjoyment along county-maintained roads.
Please uphold the intent and spirit of these regulations by requiring SPI to explicitly maintain a 200-foot uncut visual buffer along North Bloomfield Graniteville Road prior to approving this plan.
Thank you for your consideration.
Sincerely,
